Watercolors

A Quick Word About My Watercolor Sketchbook

This year, 2025, I decided to begin sketching quick ink portraits over morning coffee and later bringing them to life with watercolors. I love the process—not only is it fun and quick, but I’m also fascinated by the human emotion that emerges in each drawing once complete. I also started these in hopes they might serve as practice to hone my drawing skills, which I’ve never felt particularly confident about, nor had much patience for. Though I always dreamt of being an artist throughout my life, somewhere in my teens I completely lost faith in my abilities for it, and so giving it up for good, I never considered pursuing art until someone put a paintbrush in my hand at the age of 48. Anyway, for these sketches I use Micron pens, embracing the permanence of ink—so no erasing, no fixing. I figure however they end up is how they’re meant to end up; flaws and all.
